It’s often overlooked, even ignored, but health experts say mental health conditions are real and should be addressed. “Physical illnesses are tangible. Depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder is hard for someone to understand because it’s not tangible,” explained Jayme Hodges, director of behavioral health with Lee Health.

But they are treatable—if people seek help. “Sometimes people see it as a weakness. It’s difficult to come to someone else and say I need help; I can’t do this by myself. I should be able to handle this. I should be able to do it differently. I must be weak because I cannot,” said Hodges.

Everyone experiences things differently and copes with things differently. Health experts say finding healthy coping skills is important to your overall health. “We can change our perception. Sometimes the only thing we have control over is how we view a situation and how we choose to react to it,” said Hodges.

Adding a physical activity, talking to someone, and taking time for yourself are a few positive ways to help you cope. “There’s a difference between “me time” and isolation. That line between what is “me time” and what is isolation differs for each person,” she said.

While dealing with things like anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder, it can be difficult to see the impact it’s having on those around you. “Most times those around you will notice changes before you are aware of them. Whether it’s your facial expressions are different, you seem sadder, you seem not like yourself,” said Hodges.

Taking the time to acknowledge how you feel and practice healthy coping skills can help to improve your physical and mental health.

So the underlying assumption here is that showing up to work clean and socializing is the epitome of mental health? and by extension ignoring the fact that a 1 billion plus people in certain geographic areas think one way and 1billion plus other people in different geographic areas think another way is also healthy? your world is very insane. a sane person would lend his efforts to attempting to fix this waking nightmare.

Am Here to share my own testimony on how I was free from mental illness, I have been suffering from mental illness for the past 7years, my patients use all source of pills and drugs and also a brain surgery and yet, it was the in the same stage.   8. Hey for uploading videos on such issues, we need to realise that physical isn’t the only the thing that matters….take care of yourself inside out, mental health problems need to be addressed. Thanks for this video and i highly recommend you guys to check for such mental issues.

  9. We are in an incredible nanny state period of history, where everyone is a victim and hypersensitive to being offended and needs specialist intervention to help them understand themselves (££££££).
    It’s all about me, my struggle, my pain, my self-harm, my trama, my depression! That’s my label, my identity.
    I don’t think the survivors of the horrific experiences of world war two needed so much counselling, pills, or attention. 

    In the 40,s they perhaps had better coping skills and didn’t have so much propaganda of telling people to talk openly about their possible mental health, setting up people as victims.

    If you didn’t think so much about yourself, would you even know of depression?
    Is not self-harm learned behaviour?
